Prayer of Gratitude

Psalm 136:1-2 (NCV)
1  Give thanks to the LORD because he is good. His love continues forever.
2  Give thanks to the God of gods. His love continues forever.

Lord of lords,

I desire to be sensitive to the prompting of your Holy Spirit to live with a grateful heart, cognizant of your work in my life and my abundance resources.

I cherish a heart driven by that loving and thankful response to you, O God, and your presence with me and within this world.

Though your blessings abound in my life, they are not sufficient to the gratitude I hold for you.  I delight in you and your good will toward me and in that I find my greatest gratitude.

Make me ever aware of the abundance of your gifts, benefits, mercies and grace that has been poured into my life.

Curb my cynical tendencies by overwhelming them with thanksgiving.

Give me the eyes to see what I have more than what I lack.

Help me to treasure the gift of your people to my life by thanking them often and to value them for what they mean to you more than me.

Let me practice daily thanksgiving in my life for your presence and provision.

Save me from those things of life that detract from my attention and thanksgiving to you.  Aid me to repent of cherishing things more than I should.

And allow me the spirit to receive everything given to me by your and others as a gift and never as an entitlement.  AMEN

Having prayed this prayer…

Make an effort to listen to music and prose that speaks of God’s generosity than the selfishness of this world.

Take the time to share from what you have been given with those around you in the spirit and as a sign of your gratitude to God.

Always remember to express your appreciation to others for even the smallest of graces with a ‘thank you’ and ‘you are so kind’.

Make it a habit to notice each grace and gift of the day as from the hand of God and dwell upon the blessing.

Practice an abundance mentality that sees more of the blessings than others and salt your speech with such thanksgiving.
