2 Corinthians 4:16 (NCV)
16  So we do not give up. Our physical body is becoming older and weaker, but our spirit inside us is made new every day.

Eternal God and Ageless One,

I lift before you those dear souls who are in the latter years of their life and who struggle with accepting that aging process.

Protect them from the fears that accompany diminished abilities and opportunities.

Guard their hearts from the disobedience that comes with resentment for unanticipated losses associated with age.

Deliver their minds from the resentments and bitter thoughts that can easily come and free them from that pride that prevents them from aging with grace.

Help them to see life’s storms as opportunities for eternal praise and focus their thoughts on that unseen and better world.

Let them see their present circumstances as only temporary in the best of senses and aid them in understanding what all God is preparing for them in that life to come.

As their body fails, let your Spirit become their strength and let them lean upon the wisdom gleaned from all their years of life.

Grant them the insight that this is all part of God’s plan and should be seen through the eyes of faith and for His glory.

Encourage them to make it their goal to please you and to remember that they will soon stand before you to inherit their promise and account for even this stage of life.  AMEN

Having prayed this prayer…

Take the time to visit the homebound or shut-ins to encourage them and build your appreciation for your aging days.

Learn to listen with attention and compassion to an older person and ask questions about their earlier years.

Be prepared to aid an older person with your time or help if needed.

Worship with them, read scriptures, sing a hymn, pray with them or simply sit with them in silence.
