Adultery

Psalm 51:3-4, 7, 10-12

“For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned…. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow…. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me”

Merciful God,

I lift before you now those men and women caught in the sin of adultery who lie and hide that sin from those they love.

Let them know that there can be no healing to their relationship till the truth comes out and they confess their sin.

Supported by prayer and other dedicated Christians, help them to recommit themselves to a biblical model of prayer in their faithfulness and treatment of one another.

Give heart and courage to the offending mate to cut all ties to that third party.  Adultery cannot be hidden and the remnants of that relationship cannot be allowed to smolder.  Free them from that anchor.

Renew within them a heart and love for one another.  Let their thoughts be of what brought them together and the honor of a pure and godly love.

Aid the offended partner in the exercise of forgiveness by reminding them that their marriage will grow no farther than their ability to forgive.

Raise them to a higher level of appreciation for one another than just emotions.  Let them exercise choices for one another in their lives and encourage them with a blessing of grace to see that choice through.

Then uphold them, Lord, for all the costs they have not anticipated in their lives or the lives of their children.  Prepare them to work with all their heart, soul and spirit in renewing the credibility and testimony of their union.  AMEN

Having prayed this prayer…

Take note of those couples in your acquaintance that exhibit dangerous signs of infidelity and estrangement.

Pray faithfully for these couples and seek to be what value you can to the mate of your same gender.  Do not counsel the mate of opposite gender under any circumstances.

See to the health and well-being of your own marriage.

Do not minimize the seriousness of the biblical marriage by participating or encouraging such practices as flirting, condescending remarks or crude language.
