Prayer for Teachability

Mark 4:22-24 (NCV)
22  Everything that is hidden will be made clear and every secret thing will be made known.
23  You people who can hear me, listen!
24  “Think carefully about what you hear. The way you give to others is the way God will give to you, but God will give you even more.

All-Knowing God,

I seek to remain a lifelong learner who is continually open tot he fresh wind of your Holy Spirit.

Create within me an openness to learn from you no matter who is the teacher or what the experience may be.

Protect me from becoming rigid in my thinking and slow in accepting new things you bring my way.

Stir me to become a better listener so that I might ever be a learner.

Forge a humility within me that prevents a hardness of heart resisting growth and love.

Let me learn to be content with not having to know it all or be right in every situation.

Grant me a certain freedom from over attachment to my own opinions, words and ways.

Remind me that I am not always the teacher but ever the learner.  AMEN

Having prayed this prayer…

Practice the habit of seeking new ideas, opinions, styles and people in your life.

Curb your know it all attitude by saying, “What do you think?”

Learn to ask questions that lead to a deeper awareness of God and others.

Listen more; talk less.

Refrain from snap judgments based on appearances.
