Matthew 6:6 (NIV)
6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit,
I desire to follow the simple but often hidden way of you. That hidden way is to be found in a certain practice of anonymity, lack of display and the holding sacred confidences. Aid me in doing so.
Guide me in finding acts of service that I may render without letting anyone know what I have done or why I have done it save you.
Help to truly hold confidences as secrets not be shared with any but you. Let me become a safe place for people to bear their souls
Save me from the compulsion to share all I know especially when others are speaking in ignorance.
Allow me to practice my life in you while not revealing my good deeds, talents or qualities so that I might win the approval of others than you.
Consecrate those most intimates moments of our walk together to you alone so that I do not speak of them to another.
Quicken me to celebrate the achievements of others without envy or the need to remind others of my own. AMEN
Having prayed this prayer…
Select a secret place where you may in privacy and intimacy approach the Lord.
Maintain the confidences given you by speaking to the Lord of them regularly and not to others.
Learn to practice you spiritual disciplines in secret and out of the view of others.
Guard against self-centered conversations so you might have peace rather than competing for attention.
Bear being misunderstood without seeking to justify yourself or rationalize your behavior.
Demonstrate that what is important in your life is not found in your resume or achievements.
Receive praise and recognition graciously and then move on without have to add any self-deprecating comments.
