Prayer of Retreat

“He makes me to lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.”  Psalm 23:2,3

Lord, I desire to make more space in my life for you alone.

Teach me, Savior, to delight in your company and to practice your presence.  Lead me aside in my busy life to quiet places where I can rest with you and listen to you speak to my heart with your Spirit of refreshment and renewal.

Help me to allow you to quiet the noise inside and outside my heart by centering on your presence alone.

Take me away for a period of time from all my productivity of life and let me seek no other goal than your presence and voice.  Free me from the need to be seen and to produce.

Teach me to rest in you at quiet places away from this world and my work.

Freeing me from my focus on work, may I see your work more clearly and sense your hand moving in my world.

Thank you for teaching me how to ‘be’ and not just ‘do’.  Amen.

Having prayed this prayer:

Schedule short times apart throughout your week and an extended time with God each month.

Take seasonal retreats for rest and renewal.

Detach from your work life on those times of retreat by finding places in God’s creation where you do not need your devices.

Use those times of retreat to see where you soul may be in danger and find God’s help in reengaging in the spiritual battle.
